Midwest Furfest 2001
Friday, November 16th 2001- Sunday, November 18th 2001
This was my first furry convention. It was also the same week the XBox came out. I worked ridiculously long shifts Monday through Wednesday at AMG, then took off early on Thursday to pick up the XBox. Playing it late into the night, I got up early on Friday morning to pick up three other furs, who to my knowledge at the time were the only ones in the state, and headed west.
We stopped at Notre Dame to Race, a mutual frient of Fozzy and myself. We stayed a bit too long as we couldn't stop playing DOA3 & Halo. Arriving at the con after registrtion was closed, we got temporary badges and started hanging out at the hotel.
On Friday, I accomplished my first goal for the con, and that was meeting Torrle. This was the first time that I experienced my amazing "con luck". I was standing in the artist's alley, asking if someone had seen him, and then suddenly he walked into the room. Got my first hardcore furry hug, ending up slammed into the wall, and it was great.
Saturday, I was lucky enough to have lunch at Mongolian Barbeque with Uncle Kage. Very interesting guy to speak with, and the best navigator who's ever sat shotgun in my car. Unfortunately, I didn't find out until Anthrocon 2002 that he ended up expunging said Mongolian BBQ later that afternoon. My biggest brush with furry fame, as well as one of my most embarassing stories.
Sunday I met some furs from my local state by circumstance of them randomly walking up and talking to me at a table. AlphaWolf & Alpine let me know that there were a bunch of other furs in my state, which led to me joining the local furry community.
